This summer the state was experiencing devastating fires not too far from Portland, where I live. Smoke had enveloped the city for days with AQIs over 500. It was everywhere, in the house, on your clothes, in your lungs.
My wife suggested I paint what I had been feeling. I sat at the canvas. This is what came out. I am dealing with a pretty strong depression at the moment that I am actively dealing with.
As a child I lived in Vermont and Cat Tails were everywhere in the summer. You would find them at the lakes, the ponds, the rivers, the bogs. When starting this painting it was the first thing that came to mind and influenced me through out.
The process took some time from start to finish. First there was a late night photo session to get the underlying image. I then waited a week until I looked at the
I am not the biggest fan of this piece. It is a workshop piece in watercolor and a 9×12. I found water color to be a great challenge.
This is a 20×24 acrylic abstract. I this was painted in my driveway around midnight in early September of 2020
